Can ICON resin infiltration treat white spots on teeth?
How the cause and depth of a white mark affect suitability, likely improvement and the place of whitening or restoration.

ICON uses a low-viscosity resin to enter selected porous enamel lesions and reduce the way they scatter light. It can soften the contrast of some white spots without conventional drilling, but it cannot predictably erase every mark.
Diagnosis comes first
- Early decay must be distinguished from a stable enamel mark
- The surface and likely depth affect penetration
- Active plaque and gum inflammation need control
- Developmental marks may behave differently from post-brace lesions
Where whitening fits
Whitening changes the surrounding natural tooth shade and may be planned before infiltration. It can also make some white marks look more obvious initially, so the sequence and settling time matter.
Know the limit before treatment
Deep or irregular marks may improve only partly and sometimes need composite or another restorative option. The aim should be proportionate improvement while preserving enamel, not a guaranteed invisible result.
