Planning your smile before a wedding or big occasion
A wedding, milestone birthday or important event is a common reason to think about your smile. The most useful thing you can do is tell your dentist the date early — and keep an open mind about how much needs doing.

Start with the date
Your deadline shapes which options are realistic. Share it at the first consultation so the plan includes time for reviews and any adjustments, rather than finishing the week before.
Oral health first
Gum health, decay and old fillings are checked before cosmetic work. A hygiene visit alone can make a visible difference.
The usual order of treatment
- Alignment, if teeth need moving, comes first
- Whitening next, so new restorations can be matched to the brighter shade
- Bonding or other restorations last, once the colour has settled
If time is short
Not every option fits every timescale, and aligners cannot be guaranteed to finish by a specific date. A smaller change, or simply a hygiene clean and whitening, can be the sensible choice. Doing nothing cosmetic is a valid option too.
Questions patients ask
- What if my event is soon? Ask what is realistic; a hygiene visit or whitening may be possible.
- Can aligners finish by a specific date? Not with certainty; allow extra time.
- Should whitening happen before bonding? Usually, so the bonding matches your new shade.
