Invisalign attachments: the small bumps that do the work of brackets
People often ask about the cost of Invisalign "per bracket" — but Invisalign has no brackets at all. Instead it uses small tooth-coloured attachments, and they are usually included in the fee.

Fixed braces move teeth with brackets and wires. Invisalign moves them with a series of clear aligners, and for many movements the aligner alone is not enough. That is where attachments come in: small, tooth-coloured shapes of composite bonded to specific teeth to give the aligner something to grip.
What to expect with attachments
- They are placed in a short appointment and removed at the end of treatment
- They are tooth-coloured, but visible up close on front teeth
- They make aligners feel tighter to remove for the first few days
- Not every case needs them — simpler movements may need none
Do attachments cost extra?
At most practices, attachments are part of the planned treatment and included in the quoted fee rather than priced per tooth. What matters more is what the overall fee covers: the aligners, reviews, refinements if teeth do not track as planned, and retainers at the end. Our guide to Invisalign cost in Twickenham breaks this down, and current fees are on the Fees page.
Risks and alternatives
Attachments can occasionally detach and need replacing, and the composite is polished off at the end of treatment. Alternatives include fixed braces for complex movements, or no treatment. Not every case suits aligners — an assessment confirms which movements are realistic.
